Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou, one of the most famous, influential poets of all time. She was not just a poet writing poems for fame or money but she was writing for her enjoyment and for a good cause, which is what many poets today don't have. Maya was just an African American who thought that segregation and slavery was wrong. But what made her different was that she actually took action.
But not as one would expect. She didn't make public speeches, she didn't create groups, she didn't protest but instead, she used her talent of writing. She fought against segregation through her poems, but not directly, such as in her most famous poem, "I know thy the caged bird sings."
